What's open in winter?

Will be on Mt. Desert for a long weekend Feb. 26-28. What's open in the way of eateries, activities, etc. in the various towns, particularly the Quiet Side? I know part of the Park Loop Rd. is closed, as well as the Jordan Pond House within the park. Anyone ever x-country ski or snowshoe in Acadia lately? Tips?

Thanks, all!

When there is snow, X-country skiing and/or snowshoeing can be easily accessed on the park's Carriage Roads. Forecast is for storms later this week.

Check w/ Ranger station for latest info.

As to dining...see this thread on "Bar Harbor in Winter" at Chowhound.com

Right now there isn't enough snow for skiing or snow shoeing...I just walked around Witch Hole Pond yesterday and there is more bare than snow and what is there is ice...but it was fine for walking on and there are plenty of other trails to walk at this time of year...you can even walk on the Park Loop Road, most of it is closed but the area that is open, near Sand Beach, doesn't get a lot of traffic in the winter...the weather is fairly mild right now and although they are calling for some precipitation this week, it will most likely be rain or snow showers...

There's not much open right now in the way of restaurants because several winter places have taken the end of February off. That being said, there are still enough open for a long weekend.

On the quiet side, you have Red Sky and Sips in Southwest Harbor. Sawyer's Market has sandwiches for lunch. In Bar Harbor, there is McKay's, Geddy's, Jack Russell's, Siam Orchid, The Side Street Cafe, Mama DiMatteo's, and China Hill.

I would be sure to try and stay somewhere that serves breakfast because there's not much in the way of breakfast. Maine Street Grill and Morning Glory Bakery might be the only places open in Bar Harbor.
