Is Agios Georgios the best beach for late June

Our family (adults + older teenagers) are looking at Naxos in late June. Does it get really windy on Agios Georgios Beach in June/July. A lot of posts refer to the great windsurfing conditions so wondering if it will be unpleasant. It was extremely windy in Crete in May during a previous visit so would jus like to check before I go to far with the plans.

Naxos,as all Cyclades islands, get the meltemia winds mostly on July/August. Of course no one can predict the weather exactly, but end of June is usually alright. St George is suitable for windsurfing mostly for beginners as its shallow and actually not so windy as opposed eg to Plaka and Orkos beaches, but there is a stream between Naxos and Paros,so windsurfs can actually move even if wind is still . I think you shouldn't worry too much.

While one always runs a risk of wind generally speaking St George is protected. Late June is too early for the strong winds.

In any case St George is probably the best place for you, primarily because it is located directly beside Naxos town. There is so much to see and do in town and then you can just stroll back to St George and have a beach stay as well. This is particularly important at night when St George is quiet and you can get a good nights sleep away from the noise of the town.

If on the other hand you are really going to Naxos for a beach holiday and you really do not care about town then you may consider one of the beaches on the west coast of Naxos. These beaches are superior to St George but have less infrastructure. Aggia Procopious and Aggia Anna both have small villages adjacent while Plaka has a string of newer small hotels and a few tavernas.

We always choose to stay at St George but on a day where we want a full day of beaching we always just hop the bus and head out 7km to Plaka Beach.
