we arrive next week but undecided weather to get travellers cheques or just use the atm

No benefit from using travellers cheques apart from security. Best rates by exchanging cash, ATM withdrawal in most instances will cost you charges and immediate interest.

Hi Jools,

Bit late now, but for the future, open a Nationwide Flex account, there are no charges in Europe at any ATM and you also get top exchange rates too.

No, no, no, this doesn't apply any more, they are replacing SOME existing account-holders' cards with a VISA debit (for which it WILL still apply), but new account holders have to go for the Flex Account plus, and they ain't giving those out that easily!

If Nationwide like you and let you have one of the new-style accounts or the relevant upgrade then yes, you're OK.

I think they've got fed up of running accounts that people only ever use for this purpose!
