Wife wants to surprise Steeler Fan hubby for 20th Anniversar

i would like to take my hubby to Pittsburg for a Steeler weekend for our 20th Anniversary which is at the end of August. Would love suggestions on which game (pre-season v regular season), hotel, how long to stay, any other steeler related options would be great. He is such a big fan he has a steeler emblem tatood on his leg.

Sorry you're not getting any responses--I really can't be much help as I am not a sports fan even though I am from Pittsburgh! Only thing I have observed is that there is a whole lot of Steeler stuff sold in the Strip District, lots of stores, street vendors, etc. and my sister, who is a big fan, always wants to go there when she comes to town. Mike Feinberg, Party King store has a particularly fine collection of trashy stuff. I often buy Steeler party supplies there to ship to relatives.

I hope the Steeler fans help you out here!

Thanks! That's nice of you to respond. :o) It is overwhelming since I don't know if there is a particular area the Steeler Fans stay in, etc., but i'm sure it will come together. Thanks again!

If he's a Ben Roethlisberger fan then definately pre-season since he will be out for at least the first 4 regular season games.

I recommend staying downtown or the North Shore for the convenience and access to the stadium, casino and other entertainment.

Check out Priceline and Hotwire for 4 star downtown and you will get either the Renaissance, Omni or Westin. All 3 are excellent, but the Ren is the best.

For the North Shore, try Spring Hill Suites.

I would suggest eating a meal either at Bettis 36 grill on the North Side (Gerome Bettis's restaurant) or Locker Room Bar & Grill on the South Side (Heinz Ward is the owner). I have only eaten at Bettis's place but it was good. Just be warned that any place on the North Side or the South side on game days will be very crowded.

The Heinz History Center often has Steelers exhibits. I would check out their website to see what they have on the dates you are interrested in.

For Steelers merchandise, the Strip is definately the place to go.

Have fun! In know your hubby will love it!!

First off…..you are a good wife!

Regular season games are much better, but tickets are hard to get and the fact Ben isn’t playing might help your decision.

Pre-season games will be easier to get tickets and Saturday night games are always fun to go to, and the town is usually hoping after the game till last call. The Steelers 1st pre-season game is 8/14/10 at 7:30 vs the Lions.

Here is what would be an awesome day for me. And you should not tell him and keep it all a surprise. That will make it all the better.

On the day of, get into town around 11:00 am and grab lunch at Primantis or another Pittsburgh original location. After lunch, do something downtown to kill a couple hours like Station Square and ride the Incline. Then head to the downtown hotel you get on priceline and get checked. Go to your room where you can present him with his anniversary gift. Gift wrap a box with the tickets, a terrible towel and maybe a new jersey or team shirt inside (everything needed for the game.) Then head to Jerome Bettis' Grill 36 for an early dinner (not sure if they take reservations, but if the do, make them early) After dinner head to the stadium parking lots around 5:00 – 5:30 to tailgate, and off to the game at 7:00 pm. After the game you 2 can go out on the town all night.

Be warned - have alternative lunch plans. Primantis is NOT for every taste. I personally hate the food and would never recommend the place.

You can check out their website beforehand and decide for yourself whether their sandwiches are what you would consider food.
