Day Trip to Hershey

We are looking to spend a few days (Arrive Saturday leave possibly Tuesday or Wednesday) in the Lancaster part of PA. We are trying to decide if we should stay in Lancaster and day trip it to Hershey for a day or two (always staying in Lancaster). Is the trip too far for a day trip? Google maps has it as 45 minute ride, which is fine with me. I am guessing Lancaster may be cheaper on accommodations.

A lot depends on what else you would like to do while you are in the area. Hershey is only a shirt *45 min.) drive as you indicate. Lancaster probably provides more accommodation options for you. The Eden Resort is adjacent to the highway you would take to get to Hershey, and your travel time would be slightly less.

What were you planning to do in Hershey (Hershey Park? Hershey Gardens? Chocolate World?).

The answer resides in what else you would like to do during your visit.

The drive from Lancaster to Hershey is an easy drive and depending on where you stay in Lancaster is about 40 - 50 minutes. If you are just doing one day in Hershey, staying in Lancaster would make sense. As you plan you agenda, just remember that the Amish/Mennonite related businesses in the Lancaster area will be closed on Sunday.

I agree with the above advice- although if you are staying in the tourist area of Lancaster County- which is east of Lancaster city, it could add 15 minutes to your trip

Flyeagle is right that all Amish and almost all Mennonite owned shops and restaurantsare closed Sunday, although there is still plenty to do.- even the three re-created Amish homes are open Sunday, since they are not Amish owned and have no Amish employees.

When our kids were younger we always stayed in Lancaster to visit Hershey. We even on occasion did the sunset entry and returned the next day for our regular Hershey admission.

One note, the roads are very, very dark at night leaving Hershey heading to Lancaster.
