Vans/Shuttle cars to move around Stonehenge- Airport?

Hello, I'm planning a UK tour for about 20 people in September 2017. The main objective is to visit Stonehenge, while we are at it we might want to visit London 1 day and bath and we need transportation from the airport to our hotel or house.

So we need PRIVATE transportation from and to the airport <> hotel <> London <> Stonehenge <> Bath.

I want this to be as budget-wise as possible, which companies in the area do you recommend?

Thanks.

Arturo, the simple answer is that "PRIVATE" and "budget" are usually incompatible. But let's see....

Where you landing, where are you planning on staying and for how long, I'm not clear if you are saying 1 night in London and 1 in Bath? Where are you flying out of at the end?

PS a van in the U.K. Is a cargo vehicle....your options appear to be cars or some some size of coach, the former can be self-drive the latter require a qualified driver.

Yes, we need a vehicle for 20 people and a driver. We're planning to stay 3-4 nights in the Amesbury - London area. London, Bath and Stonehenge are daily excursions, in the end we will remain in a strategic part that is not too expensive and where we can easily reach Stonehenge.

We don't know yet to which London airport we would be arriving.

You would be better off staying in London and doing either one day trip to Stonehenge and Bath, or two separate day trips to each. If you do the latter you can use public transport and take advantage of group booking fares on the trains.

Hmm, Amesbury and London are not in the same area - they are 85 miles apart (centre to centre).

This can be done a number of ways - so let's tease this out:

Airport to Amesbury, then

4 nights in Amesbury, during which

Day trips from Amesbury to Bath and London

Amesbury to Airport

The sequencing is important: the Airport-Amesbury-Airport might be done by a coach company local to the Airport. The day trips could be done by a local to Amesbury company - a recent quote from that area to Bath and back was £400.

And Amesbury may not be the best centre...for instance if you stay in Salisbury then trains and commercial tours come into play. Indeed staying in Bath puts Stonehenge in reasonable distance.

At least September is when the schools are back and is less frenetic. Can you do some more work and produce a fuller plan with reasonably firm locations? I suspect people here can no go no further with ]out a better sense of the geography?

Yeah, you're right, what area of London would you say is cheaper to stay and well-positioned to take public transportation that goes to Bath and Stonehenge? And where could we take this public transportation?

Also which vehicle options could we take from the airport to get to this strategic area in London? What public transport is it available and what vehicle/driver hire companies are there?

If you are switching to staying in London you should repost in the London Forum.

All the London Airports have excellent links by public Transport into the city. You might want to look at flights to Bristol too and perhaps stay in Bath?

London to Stonehenge by public transport is the train from London Waterloo (or Bath) to Salisbury and then the regular bus service from the station to Stonehenge http://www.thestonehengetour.info/

< the Airport-Amesbury-Airport might be done by a coach company local to the Airport. >

I would never suggest using a company local to the airport for medium to long haul private transfers. ALWAYS use a company local to your destination as not only will they be cheaper, they also know how to get to your destination. In this case they may even get a good discount because of the number of trips they want to make.

Try either Sailsbury or Bath for transport companies. Alternatively if you stay in London contact some of the companies who do trips to Bath / Stonehenge to see if they can do you a private tour exclusive to your group

Forget staying in Amesbury - there are very few hotels in that area and nothing to do in the evening. Salisbury is close by and would be a better bet as there are several hotels there and a shuttle bus (www.thestonehengetour.info) from there to Stonehenge.

If you need to hire a minicoach from an airport to Salisbury, then you could try a local company called Real Coach Hire that specialises in that size of vehicle. However if you decide to stay in London and do Stonehenge as a day tour then a London area coach company would make more sense.

without your own transport then a train to Salisbury or bath would be best or a coach to Salisbury or Amesbury like national express there are places to stay in Amesbury but without your own transport you are not going to get out and see much but if Stonehenge is your main point of a the vist the Amesbury to Stonehenge is a ok walk as is woodhenge and Salisbury yes you can walk to things but for Salisbury to Stonehenge you would need to take the tour bus bath again has more that you can walk to but it will take longer to get to Stonehenge and cost more than it would from Salisbury its the size of your group a bus and driver will cost you what about hireing two or three 7 seater cars and drive yourself

I've used these people a couple of times for family events. They were very competively priced.
