Kayak or SUP near Florence

We are heading to Florence in a few weeks and are renting a house in the Heceta Beach area. We are debating whether to bring along our kayaks and stand up paddle board. Are there some lakes or reservoirs in the area that would be good for this? We take two small dogs out with us so we tend to stay away from kayaking in rivers and the ocean.

Also what hikes would be good for us to try? We really don't have any limitations except for our pups that will be hiking with us.

Thanks - Dawn

LOTS of good hiking and a total of 17 lakes and two rivers could mean you are in for a real treat!!

For kayaking, search "Siuslaw Water Trail" and "Siltcoos Water Trail".

For hiking, there are a plethora of trails both north and south. My two favorites are Heceta Head Lighthouse Trail and the Valley Trail in Carl G Washburn State Park, both of which are accessed from the same trailhead.

Thanks for your responses. I already had the Hetceta Head Lighthouse trial on our hiking list and will also add the Valley Trail. The Siltcoos Water Trail looks like it would be an awesome kayak trip, so definitely will add that to our itinerary also.

Is there a lake you would recommend that has a decent boat launch area and maybe a picnic area?

Both Woahink and Siltcoos Lakes have nice public boat launches with picnic facilities. Both are just south of Florence. Woahink is better in the mornings as it gets pretty windy most afternoons. Siltcoos is this largest lake on the Oregon Coast and has a lot of interesting and secluded coves to explore. PLUS, you can access the Siltcoos River!

Siltcoos Lake - is the largest lake on the Oregon Coast covering nearly 6 square miles, located east of Hwy 101 and 5 miles south of Florence, Siltcoos is home to half a dozen Resorts and two Boat Ramps. Siltcoos Lake is favored by Sail Boaters for hundreds of miles around and a top Bass Fishing area along with other fish species.

Woahink Lake - This is another favorite for Sail Boaters, located just 3 miles south of Florence, east of Hwy 101 and covering 787 acres. With plenty of room for skiers, wind surfers and other boaters and enough room to navigate these pleasant waters , with many private coves although there are private homes and real estate all around the lake. Some of the most prime living in this area is located on the shores of these two lakes and especially the area just between these two, Siltcoos and Woahink Lakes. If you are looking for fantastic lake view living this is an area you must see.

Mercer Lake - One of largest and beautiful lakes, just 5 miles north of Florence and 1 mile east of Hwy 101. Largely surround by private land, spectacular homes and views, the lake has two county launch ramps and many of the homeowners have private ramps and docks. Mercer Lake offers anglers rainbow trout, bass and perch fishing as enjoy the great climate and scenery.

Sutton Lake - Located 4 miles north of Florence, just east of the Highway 101 is another example of Lake living at it's best on the Oregon Coast with homes surrounding much of the lake, many with their own boat docks, unsurpassed scenery surrounded by lush forest.
