Is it safe to drive from the airport to Mita in the evening?

Hi, My family of 5 will be arriving in PV airport at 5:45pm. We are renting a car and then would like to stop at a grocery store like Walmart to stock up on food and then continue to our destination condo in Punta de Mita. This will likely have us driving on the hightway around 8pm. Is the route from PV to Mita safe to drive in the evening? Would we be better off driving straight to Mita and grocery shopping the following day?

It is generally safe to drive on your timeline. The only issue will be topes or speedbumps that are not always easy to see at night. There are a lot going through La Cruz that you want to watch out for. Once you are on the divided section past La Cruz (stay to the right to get the divided highway) you are good until right near the Litibu turn off where there are lots more all the way into Punta Mita. Take your time and pay attention and you should be fine!

I would recommend stopping at Mega just before Bucerias. Get off on the right lateral just past the Flamingos exit. Mega has easier on/off access, is easier to see at night and has everything you need.

Great advice above. Totally agree.

The only thing I would add is that there is a great little grocery store for anything you have forgotten to get at Mega, called Mercado Ollin which is located at the end of the road into Punta Mita, by the back gate of the Four Seasons. It is open something like 9 am until 8 pm Monday to Saturday and until 3 on Sundays. Next door to it is a good fruit and vegetable store called Pacheco. Also, if there is something you want that he doesn't carry he will order it for you.
