Parking in Salzburg

We are spending next weekend in Salzburg (Friday to Tuesday) but we have a hired car and we wondered where the best and cheapest place to park it would be? Our hotel is in the centre of Salzburg and charges 18 euros per day. Any help? Thanks

Uhhhhhh, Salzburg is located in Austria ----- not Germany.

ah well, its only a couple of kms from germany, so they are nearly right! :D

seriously though, parking in salzburg can be pricey. you dont say where your hotel is, but if it is on the outskirts, there just may be free on street parking. otherwise 18€ per day is not bad. i paid 20 sterling per day in the uk!

You could park in one of the park and rides on the outskirts of town. Don't know from which direction you'll approach Salzburg, but the P&R Süd (motorway exit Süd Alpenstrasse) costs just 5€ per 24 hours and there are 3 bus lines that connect you to the city centre from there. You can get a combined ticket for 24 hours parking plus a day ticket for the buses (up to 5 people) for 14€

Otherwise check out the list of car parks on the Salzburg tourist information website. Click on "information", under the address for each car park to get their charges.

That 18€ a day sounds like a real bargain to me. 12 years ago we drove a large van there and had to park for several days. We were directed by our hotel, another parking lot, and a policeman to the only lot that would fit our van in the center of Salzburg. When we returned to the van several days later by taxi it was not there. The taxi driver immediately knew what had happened, it had been towed because of a market day using that lot. (The wording advising of this on the sign was in small print easy not to see on the sign being at the bottom, especially after having been directed to park there. How convenient no one ever mentioned that, but we had the final laugh. The taxi ride to the lot and then on to the impound lot coupled with the towing charge and fine was less then if they had left the van in the lot and the parking charge which we never had to pay!!!!!
