Zanzibar and Far es salaam

We are a family of 3: Parents and 14 years son arriving at Dar es salaam airport at 7am and we will be flying back home at 6am.

It's our first time in Tanzania.

We will be staying for 12 nights and we have lots of questions:

- Is there data sim cards available for tourists? which operator is the best and for how much?

- In order to go to Zanzibar, by air or ferry? how to go from Far es salaam airport to ferry (if we decided to go by ferry)?also is there more than a ferry company and which one is the best?

- We want to stay for few days in stone town but don't know how many days are enough? Is there public transportation?

- Will the 2nd half of August be suitable to enjoy beach and swimming or it will be bit chilli?

- We are in dilemma as we want to enjoy nice clean beach meanwhile at night have access to food and shops, so we don't know where to stay exactly? Will it be possible to stay for example in stone town and move daily by public transportation to North or east to enjoy the beach?

- Any recommendation for a good hotel in town or beach? moderate budget (60$) comfortable and with private bathroom?

- Shall we consider spending few days in dar es salaam? Any recommendations for an area to stay and attractions?

Dar to Zanzibar go by air check with coastal air, precision air,air excel ,zanair, flightlink

Zanzibar island tour go Nungwi and jambiani for blue safari

Stone tour full for culture tour and historical tour

August is best time for safari visit parks like Tarangire, lake manyara, ngorongoro crater, central Serengeti, northern Serengeti for great migration crossing Mara river

Go in 4th page in TA for Tour operators list or list www.tatotz.org to pick TO who can organise all in one bucket but try to email different TO about your budget plus wishlist area to visit

Is it possible to do the tours ourselves without getting an operator as we are on budget trip?

Have a great time!

In Dar, we stayed at the Mediterranio on the day we arrived and one more day before beginning our safari.

Great location and beautiful food. We swam in Indian Ocean (shallow for Long time). And Nice pool.

Then we had a safari arranged by Wild Things Safari (enquiries@wildthingsafaris.com). They were very reasonable and the guides were fantastic! Everywhere we stayed was clean and safe, and some places were breathtaking!

Ruaha Hilltop Lodge is wonderful and I wish we could have spent more than two nights.

On Zanzibar, we stayed at Aya Beach Bungalows-- fantastic food, beautiful, peaceful, intimate and reasonable!

Eddie is the manager and very helpful.

Michaelangelo arranged a snorkeling dolphin/whale day that was a lifetime memory.

We had 14 family members on our safari ranging from 13 to 70, all pretty active. The hike at Udzungwa for the waterfall was great (challenging but with a lower route option).

Enjoy your trip -- relax and breath!
