Questions re USA to Canada journey at Niagara-falls

I am from UK and will be flying into US for 18 days on vacation and then driving from Boston to Niagara for the last few days of our trip before returning to UK via Toronto.

My questions are as follows:-

1) Under the VWP what is acceptable as proof of onward travel for departure from US to Niagara-falls (On) as our intention was to drop rental car off at US side and get a taxi across to Canadian side.

2) Will we need proof of onward travel at our US point of entry when we first arrive?

TIA

1. There is no departure inspection. You will only need your passport to enter Canada.

2. They may ask to see a return ticket at both border entries, but not likely.

Thanks for the reply, is a plane ticket from Toronto to UK sufficient to show a return journey?

Hi Disneysg1;

The US and Canada share data. Your land crossing entry will be recorded into Canada's computers causing a notation of your departure, to be recorded on the American system.

I have one further question. We will be dropping the rental car near the Fashion outlet of Niagara on the US side. What is the best form of transport to get over to the Oakes Hotel on the Canadian side from this location?

Hi Disneysg1;

The fashion outlet is approx. 6 miles from the border. The Oakes is approx. 1 mile from the border.

You could take a taxi all the way to the hotel. If it's a nice day, you could take a taxi to the Rainbow Bridge, walk across the bridge to the Canadian side and then grab a second taxi to the hotel.

Thanks, how does border control work with a taxi?

Also is public transport an option also?

You're Welcome !

There is no public transportation across the Rainbow Bridge, in Niagara Falls.

Crossing in a taxi would be the same as a private vehicle, but the meter would be running while sitting in line or while speaking with Customs. It could become costly if there is a delay of any kind.

Is border control at the start of the Rainbow bridge and if so could we do what you said and in your previous reply and get a taxi there. Walk across the bridge and the get a taxi to the Oakes?
