Why do hotels allow shady tour guides who pressure tourists...

In hotels like NGG and Bahirdar Hotel 2, there are guys hovering around the reception area pressuring guests to use their tour services which are usually overpriced. Why do hotels put up with these guys? Am I missing something?

I think this is the hotel's fault. They should tell the hustlers or some guides who try to talk tourists and should tell them to stop. If the guides want to get customers they should discuss with the hotel and put their address in the reception so that the tourists contact them when they need their service.

Yes, Sometimes they can be annoying and intimidating. My recent trip to Semein Mountain, In Debark, I requested to rent a sleeping bag. They brought including a mattress. I told the guy, I didn't want and did't requested. He said it is too cold up there in the mountain, I should. He was very aggressive. He was not taking answer, No. I finally, said to him, if the scout is sleeping without a tent and sleeping bag, I think I will be sleeping fine for 2 nights without a mattress. I wasn't interesting carrying or rent a mule, mule man......etc..... I didn't go there to seek a comfortable nights.......

Hassle and unwanted attention will probably play a role in a trip to Ethiopia. Bahir Dar is worst.

Rahnile Hotel in BD is also free of plonkers.

It is also very very good value for money and everything works and is well designed.
