Safari Honeymoon! Looking for suggestions

Safari Honeymoon! Looking for suggestions

So my finance and I looking to spend a few nights in Sabi Sand as part of our honeymoon --- wanted to see if anyone had suggestions for the best places to stay. Timing would likely be during the week of October 12th or 19th. Not looking to spend a fortune, but looking for a great experience (and will pay a little more if need be).

Also, how many nights would you recommend? We were thinking 4 initially.

Thanks!

I would definitely recommend 4 nights in the Sabi Sand and the Lodges I would suggest would be Savanna, Dulini or Londolozi. These are all 5 Star lodges and offer the highest levels of accommodation, food, service and game viewing. For a very romantic experience you may want to spend 1 night in a Treehouse at Lion Sands. They have three treehouses and they are completely fitted out with double bed and bathroom - beautiful.

Ah. That is SO cool! Congrats on your honeymoon - and what an awesome place to spend it!

Ok, well - and I know this is a boring comment - it really does depend on your budget - it is a very arbitrary thing :). When staying within a private reserve like you are (private reserves being the Sabi Sands, Timbavati, Klaserie and Balule), rates start at around R1,995 for a laid back experience, but can easily go all the way up to R16,000+ per person per night. BUT - never fear - there are SO many options in between this too. Whew!

Remember that your rate will include all meals, teas/coffees, snacks on safaris, morning safari daily, afternoon safari daily, optional bush walk daily and accommodation. On top of this (depending on the lodge), you will may also get all drinks (alcoholic and non), laundry and wifi included too.

The Sabi Sands is such a great pick for a honeymoon because of the excellent wildlife density there. But also do check out the other reserves mentioned above which also border the Kruger in the exact same way - you may find just what you are looking for at a fraction of the price of what you could pay in the Sabi Sands.

4 nights is a good amount to spend - if you could stretch it to 5, you could even potentially spend 2 nights at one property, and 3 at another to get a good idea of the terrains and different wildlife in each area.

Warm regards and good luck!

P.S - October is a lovely time to come - the days and nights are both pleasant temps, and our rains are about to start! You may even catch a few nice and quick storms while you're here.

If this - "Not looking to spend a fortune" - is a clue, then a couple of the suggestions you have had won't work. But there are a couple of things I could suggest that can help with the costs.. and both Savanna and Dulini offer one of them.. as do ALL of the lodges in the AndBeyond group. The Bride pays only 50% of the rate. In fact, that makes a Luxury Suite at Savanna a good mix of rate + experience. It's the one that is the lower cost of their suites..

In my experience, the best value-for-money is the Honeymoon Suite at Elephant Plains. Huge and quite private. No special deals there, but its regular Rack rate is pretty affordable. As is a Makubela Suite at Idube Lodge. Of the AndBeyond lodges that have the Honeymoon-Bride-Pays-Half deal, Exeter River would be the best combination of privacy and price.

I need to add something to the post above.. AndBeyond has a rule that couples using their Honeymoon special must provide a copy of their Marriage Certificate, to prove that it really is a honeymoon. But, they give you a 6-month 'window' of time to take the honeymoon. In other words, you can be a June Bride, and not go on your honeymoon till later in the year... as much as 6 months later.
