Most wineries make both red and white wines, but you don't have to taste the whites.

But my favourites in Franschhoek are Stony Brook, but you need to book. Just ask your accommodation to phone for you.

La Motte

La Bri

Holden Manz

Vrede en Lust, heading out towards Paarl

If you have time, head out towards Stellenbosch on the Helshoogte Pass. Three wineries at the top of the pass make excellent wines including reds - Delaire, Tokara and Thelema. I also like Oldenburg wines on the way up the pass.

If you head north towards Paarl as Lisa suggests, I would also include Glen Carlou if reds are your thing. La Motte has one of the best value entry level reds going (we always stock up at the start of any trip), and Holden Manz is one of the best Franschhoek stops for big reds and great views.
