Need a social security card in Vegas?

Years ago I heard you needed to have a social security card if you won a jackpot in Las Vegas, otherwise you wouldn't get paid. Is that still true? Or do you only need a valid driver's license? (Planning ahead for that big win, you know.)

What a good question!! I would imagine as long as you knew your SSN, that they could verify you were that person, with a valid, state issued photo ID.

My drivers license used to have my SS# on it, but they removed it when I had it renewed this year. I bring my SS card with me...of course I am so old my SS# is 1. I don't really think they will take your word for it, if you don't have some proof...you could recite just anyone's number, otherwise.

I go to Vegas with no SSC or drivers licence. I would think that you don't need these with all the international visitors. But then I don't really gamble...only a few quarters here and there!

no big deal if you don't have your social security card. The casino will have you sign a W-9 which states the SSN you gave the casino is correct. It basically puts the blame on you as opposed to the casino if the number is incorrect.

You need 2 forms of ID, generally a DL and most people use anything from a credit card (wich Visa is written on the W-2 not the whole number.) Others use a health insurance card or virtually anything else.

You will be asked for ID to check in to a hotel. You will need an ID to get a players card and again if you want to be comped, paid cash back etc.

You probably would never need a soc sec card but, I guess you never used airlines to get to vegas.

as for foreign visitors, they are going to withhold tax on your winnings over certain amounts depending on the type of gaming.

For foreign visitors some countrys have an exemption to paying tax on table game wins. The law has changed a bit lately so I am not up to it 100 percent. If you are from one of these countrys you need to register somwhere to get a number so you will be exempt from paying tax.

I would never take my social security card anywhere with me, too much chance something might happen to it and if it were lost, a good way for someone to steal your identity. All you need with you for ID purposes is either a valid driver's license or a passport.

Never go to Vegas without your ID. I can;t believe you go without one.

I lost or had stolen my wallet and it had all my Identification in it. I could not check into a hotel (changed hotels during stay) and could not board the plane without one. I finally had the LVPD run a check on me so I could get back on my flight home.

You must have ID
