where do the locals gamble??

Some friends and I will be in Vegas beginning of Aug. and staying at Ballys. We all love the slots and was wondering where the locals go to play the slots. I'm sure it is not on the strip and if not too far and within the boundaries of taking a bus/monarail would like to go there. Any body help us out with this question? Thanx for making a bunch of girls happy ....

We go to locals casinos like the Station or Coast chains. Most go to what ever one happens to be the closest to their home. Only way to get to most of them from the strip are via taxi or rental car.

Vegashomeboy....thanx for your quick response. You mentioned the Station and Coast casinos. Isn't there a Palace Station somewhere close to the strip and is this the same chain of Stations that you mentioned?

I agree with VegasHomeBoy. My Vegas family members usually go to Orleans (which is a Coast casino), Palace Station and Gold Coast.

What VHB forgot to mention (as a local, he probably doesn't even notice this anymore) is the shuttles. From Barbary Coast (on the Strip at Flamingo, right across from Bally's, where you will be staying), there is a shuttle to Orleans, and I think another to one of the other Coast properties.

Ellis Island and San Remo are also reasonably close to the Strip. If you don't mind the heat, Ellis Island is walkable from Bally's.

Locals usually avoid the Strip (except for those who work there). I don't think they avoid downtown as much.

If you are going downtown (which is do-able by bus), Main Street Station is convenient to the Fremont Street Experience.

Yes Palace Station is near the strip, but it is one of the lower end joints:
