Whitewater rafting in august?

i'm getting mixed info on whether there is white water rafting in late july/early aug - we'll be there 4 nites july 30 thru aug 3. staying 2 nites in canyon village and 2 in mammoth. any idea as to whether we could whitewater raft at this time - and if so where? we're not experienced hi risk rafters - no more than class III.

thanks for any advice- also for those who may know, we're also going to grand tetons, glacier and banff and aren't picky where we raft but would like to. thanks!

Plenty of spots to raft in those areas. Most popular is the rafting near Jackson/ Grand Teton. North of Mammoth you can raft the Yellowstone River. Up in Canada there is excellent rafting west of Yoho NP near Golden, BC. Those would be the three main areas to look into.

By late July and into early August the water levels are dropping most years, but your looking for beginner whitewater so that's not a concern.

Barker-Ewing out of Jackson, Montana Whitewater in Gardiner... they also raft the Madison River north of Big Sky, MT. Lots of these are mentioned in other posts on here.

Not current on Golden info so post that up in the British Columbia/Golden or Canadian Rockies forum for some ideas. The Kicking Horse River is the one you'd be rafting so a search on that could help.

If you get to ID Hughes is a premier white water rafting guide there. We have had numerous great trips with Hughes on the Salmon River and Middle Fork of the Samon.

Best rafting company with over 50 years experience and AAA rated is Barker Ewing in the Grand Tetons national park. They are out of Jackson Hole and do all their rafting within the boundary of GTNP. Awesome scenery and wildlife and very experienced guides!!!!

Yellowstone Raft Company has been around for quite a while and is a reputable company. Couple of things I don't care for is the required deposit when booking, and the lack of pertinent details on their website.

The price is low, and they raft the full 8 mile stretch, but they don't mention cost of photos, inclusion of wetsuits, etc. Maybe I just missed all that? Call and see what vibe you get.

Note the cost is lower for larger rafts for the obvious reason that they can carry more people at one time... they use large rafts. Again not an issue for beginners.
