How do I get to Springfield?? Help!!!!!

I was hoping to use my air miles to visit my elderly aunt in Springfield. My air miles plan says I can't get directly to Springfield and to try another area. After checking out flights from Kansas City and St Louis, I would not be any further ahead to use my air miles. Is there an alternate way to get to Springfield from either of these cities? Looking forward to some good ideas!

You can check Tulsa, OK. I think it's a bit closer to Springfield than St Louis.

Allegiant air flies into springfield for about $100 one way from Vegas, LA, Orlando, Tampa and Phoenix. Maybe a few more cities, check their website. This may be a roundabout way of getting to springfield but it may work for you.

If worse comes to worst you can always just fly into St. Louis and rent a car and take highway 44 west to Springfield it's a lovely drive that take about 4 hours.

St. Louis, Kansas City, and Tulsa are equadistant from Springfield. All take right at 3 hours by car. There's really no easier way, as the Amtrak train does not come down here. It's not a bad drive. If you come in from Tulsa you'll have to pay a toll. St. Louis and Kansas City you don't. The airport is on the North side of Kansas City and actually takes a little longer - however traffic isn't as bad as St. Louis (depending on when your flight gets in). Branson is also a good suggestion - you'll also have to rent a car and it'll take approximately 45 minutes to get to Springfield. Branson has AirTram & Southwest Airlines.

Thanks everyone, and especially beccaboo as that's exactly what I figured with Kansas City and St. Louis! Looks like I can get to Springfield from Vancouver - living on an island does make travel a challenge! Glad to hear about the drive to Kansas City as I would love to take in a ball game!

Royals in KC and Cardinals in STL are always a blast! We have the Springfield Cardinals - a farm team of the STL Cards here. Those games are very inexpensive, the park is beautiful, and it's a lot of fun!

As for traveling to Springfield. It's a challenge! Especially when you're traveling from one "town" to another. We're big enough to have an airport, etc but it's still small and not exactly reachable by the main airlines - without paying an arm and a leg. Have fun on your trip! Make time to go to Bass Pro Shops, some of our parks, and go to Branson for the day - it's always a good time!

Didn't mention what your air travel plan was or whether you're flexible enough to use Seattle rather than Vancouver airport. Only three major airlines into SGF: American, United & Delta.

American goes TVR-DFW-SGF; United goes TVR-DEN-SGF. SEA gives you more options and is also cheaper if you end up paying. Delta via ATL is a lot of backtracking but viable.

Nearest airports if not flying into SGF in order: Branson, Fayetteville, AR (both on SW Air) ; Tulsa; KC; STL.

If you need a car anyway, Fayetteville is shortest drive and scenic. Tulsa is easiest as its a straight shot on I-44, airport is on SGF side of town vs KC or STL which are north side.

You can also take Greyhound from Tulsa to SGF: cheap, 3 hr drive with only one stop (Joplin) but would need pickup or taxi like you would at airport to get to aunts if she doesn't drive.

I know the original post is old but info is still relevant for those in similar situations. Current gateways into SGF are Chicago, Denver, Dallas & Atlanta.
