St Louis to Hannibal

I am flying into St Louis on Sunday and want to drive to Hannibal and spend the afternoon seeing all of the Mark Twain sites so my time in Hannibal is limited.

My question is should I take the fastest route which I guess is Rt. 61 or should I take Rt. 79 which I guess is called "The Great River Road"? How much longer would that route take and is it worth doing? I would appreciate any input.

Thanks, Lisa

I'd say take the river road up. It's not a lot slower, I don't think, and Clarksville is worth a brief stop.

You might want to post this on the St. Louis forum for more feedback. It's kind of a tough call since you're pinched for time.

For what it's worth, U.S. Airways just featured the very Rt. 79 drive you're asking about as one of the world's greatest road trips. For me, there is no way it ranks that high, but it's interesting that you asked about it the same day I saw the article:

usairwaysmag.com/articles/take_the_long_way/

If you have time, I've heard there is a great restaurant in Louisiana, MO called the Eagle's Nest.

Any questions about St. Louis?
