Need Biloxi Travel Advice - March 12-19, 2011

My wife and I are planning to vacation in Biloxi during spring break this year and need any travel advice on the following:

- Typical weather in March?

- Chateau LeGrande timeshare

- Ship Island- how can we get there if the ferry isn't running?

- Seafood restaurant suggestions along Gulf coast

- Feedback on the Biloxi Shrimping Trip?

- Best charter fishing boat in Biloxi

- Best casino for cheap ($5) Blackjack?

I appreciate any other suggestions for a mid-50's couple that are new empty nesters enjoying their new freedom! :-)

Weather in March is mid 50's to mid 60's. Won't be cold I hope. Chateau LeGrande is nice and not too far from Beau.

Cheap gambling is definately at the Treasure Bay Casino. Low stakes on everything. You can even play 50 cent roulette or sit up at one of their casino bars and play 1 credit at a time and the free drinks keep coming. Some properties want you to play 25 cent poker on max bet before they comp your drinks at the bar. The staff is very friendly but the place can be kind of smokey at times. Have a great trip.

They were offering on my last visit (check first to be sure) a reimbursement of up to $100 of your losses. If you get a players card and lose above $10 all the way up to $100 on your FIRST DAY OF PLAY the Treasure Bay will reimburse you in "FREE PLAY" on your card starting at 10 AM the following day. Please speak with the players club and make sure of the details on it all.

Do you have any suggestions for getting to Ship island since the Ferry doesn't start operating until April?

We tried Snapper's Seafood on one of our trips and it was aweful - check out reviews on TA and Urban Spoon and several other sites - mostly very bad. Also try and find the Blow Fly Inn - very good and has outdoor seating if the weather is good. Also there is a small cafe inside the seafood shop in downtown Biloxi - can't remember the name but most of the locals know of it - only open Monday - Friday so plan accordingly - really good local seafood! When we were there last Treasure Bay gave us the most for our money - got the reimbursement - it was for new members or members who hadn't been there is over 2 years - made back what we lost plus double the next day - for drinks The Palace keeps em coming - small casino floor but they are expanding - but really good cocktail service. Hard Rock is always a lot of fun!

Perhaps this specific link will help you with some island cruise information, but in addition, the "home" web site is full of great information. See the "Topic" tabs at top of linked page.

I'd skip the White Cap. Their "stuffed" porous are all breading, the shrimp scampi was not good different- I don't remember the other issues.

Their location is prime, so if you must go.... The oysters "were" very good, but the beds are currently pretty non-existent. As I remember (2 yrs back) the grilled shrimp were very flavorful, still allowing the brininess of the shrimp to shine.
