Hi, we are doing a road trip to the Florida panhandle but hotels in Pensacola beach are very expensive so I moved the map along to try and find cheaper places and found Biloxi, prices are so cheap but I know nothing about the place, never even heard of it, but saw a lot of hotels have casinos and are on the beach. We love Vegas so seems like this is a good choice. How many nights do you think 3/4? What else is there to do nearby, don’t mind driving during the day but not in the evening, we would be driving back to the panhandle to fly out of Tampa back to the U.K. thanks for any help

For a great trip to the MS Gulf Coast, I think that 4 days would be ideal.

Besides the casinos (not really my thing, but so very popular), there is a ton of history. While the concentration is in Biloxi, each town along the Coast is unique, and with a unique history.

Starting East, Ocean Springs is a quaint little town, with interesting shopping, and lots of good food.

Biloxi, history, casinos, restaurants/bars, beaches.

Gulfport, different history, cute downtown, good food, one casino, beaches.

Pass Christian, more of a Summer home town for New Orleanjans, but neat, with good food and more beaches.

Bay St Louis/Waveland, beaches, quaint, artsy town, good food, and 2 (?) casinos. Worth the drive from above the Highway, along the Bay, all the way around the point to Waveland.

First stop, which I would make would be to the excellent Biloxi Visitors Center. It does have Biloxi in its name, and is located in Biloxi (across from historic Biloxi Lighthouse), but it covers the entire Gulf Coast well. The folk there know the Coast, and will be so very helpful. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-…

Also, there are excursions to Ship Island (and Ft Massachusetts) from both Biloxi and Gulfport.

Enjoy!

Thanks so much afor all the info, we don’t really gamble much but like watching others and it gives us something to do in the evening apart from drinking too much I was getting worried because I’ve booked flights then the hotels were out of budget so this really helps, what I save here helps out in the panhandle.

Just came back from a week there for the Cruisin the Coast car show so be glad you didnt book this past week! They have over 8000 cars that registered and the entire coastal area was packed. So you might want to check for any events going on during the time you have planned to visit.

As for casinos we like the Island View the best. I am not a fan of buffets but so far out of all I have tried they have the best one for the money and the food is good. I cant stand the buffet at the Beau Rivage but our friends love it. I think its mediocre and sad that a casino of this stature doesnt offer something better. But that is just MHO.

I agree with visiting the other towns. Take a day trip to Bay St. Louis which you can access by just driving along Hwy 90. Cute little shops, bars and restaurants right on the waterfront. In Long Beach stop at Steve's Marina and eat upstairs at the restaurant. Excellent food. We also like Lil Rays on Main Street there. In Gulfport there is a small historic area just across the railroad tracks, older shops and old time drug store that has fantastic Beignets. Interesting place to wander around in.

The visitors center in Biloxi is interesting to visit, lots of history there and nice ladies that run the place. Take a look at the photo album on the coffee table to see lots of historical before and after Katrina photos. There is also a hurricane monument on the square across from the Beau in Downtown Biloxi.

I highly recommend the Half Shell in downtown Biloxi as well as the Filling Station. Loved the crab cakes at the Filling station. I am not a fan of Sal & Mookies altho its popular with others. Not sure where you are staying but those are in walking distance of the Beau or the Hard Rock.

For another day trip you could head along Hwy 90 to Pascagoula, nice scenic route drive thru along the water, very nice homes there. Stop at Bozo's for some great shrimp or just to check the place out, another historical spot. On the way back stop at Ocean Springs which is a nice little town, love Salvettis for their Italian and they do a good steak too. Lots of nice little shops, bars and restaurants there too.

Its a nice area to visit. Keep in mind the gulf there is not green like the panhandle but the beaches are nice and they keep them very clean.

Enjoy!

Thanks all, my heads all over the place at the mo, I just like to get things booked and sorted and some of the panhandle was too expensive, here I’m looking at the margaritaville, Hyatt place, hurrahs, or hard rock, I can’t believe how cheap they are for what your getting so I’m thinking 3/4 nights here then back to the panhandle, have to keep to week days here or the price jumps too much, Thanks for all this info, keeping notes on it all

Peach, have heard the Shed is not doing so good, but Slap Yo Mamma moved to a new larger location and I heard it was really good now. We didnt get to try it tho so cant speak from experience. There are a few places on my go to list every time I visit and then we also try new places. Ocean Springs was completely packed the day we went so I didn't get to eat there this year. We ate at The Blind Tiger which is owned by Margaritaville. Their menu is limited to what ever is fresh that day so they only have about 10 items to choose from. I had the BBQ sandwich with onion tanglers and my DH had their cheddar burger, Prices a bit on the high side but it was very good food.

Car show is always at the first of October or at least it has been over the past 10 years.
