Shopping between W/Yarmouth and Nauset Beach

We're staying in West Yarmouth for a few days starting 8/12. For one of those days, we will be heading on over to Nauset Beach in the morning. We plan on taking off from the beach after lunch and wanted to do some shopping for a few hours before heading back to the hotel.

Between those two points (Nauset Beach and West Yarmouth), where is the best place to do some shopping for an hour or two??

I'm looking for something similar to downtown Hyannis (not necessarily as commerical) that has a bunch of shops within walking distance.

Thanks!!

Main St. Chatham has lots of cute shops.

Thanks!!

Is that near the fish pier in Chatham? I wanted to stop there and take a quick look.

How would the parking situation be on Main Street say around 2:00 on a Friday? Total chaos right?

Is that Route 28 or no?

The shopping in downtown Chatham is a lot of fun. Much of it is expensive but there's a fairly large choice of items with different prices to choose from. You can get affordable prints at Kennedy Studios or fine art at any of the galleries. Forest Beach goldsmith has unique jewelry with a beach flair and they're locally owned. You can get the full list of stores from the Chatham Chamber of Commerce website if you're interested in something specific. Otherwise, just wander.

From Nauset Beach take a left onto route 28 at the Police Station on the corner. Follow 28 past Pleasant Bay and Ryder's Cove. You'll come up to the Fish Pier in Chatham on your left. The only shopping there will be for lunch at the Fish Store!

From there, take a left out of the Fish Pier parking lot, past Chatham Bars Inn and continue up 28 until you come to the intersection for Main St. Take a right onto Main. If you go straight at that intersection instead, you'll come to the Chatham Lighthouse and the overlook there.

If you take the right onto Main you can park: on the street, behind the Squire restaurant, behind the Impudent Oyster restaurant, near the Chatham Welcome center, behind CVS, next to Oyster Pond.

I think that's it for parking! Did I leave any place out? Parking's free. Obey all parking signs or you'll be ticketed. If you park on the street make sure your tires are contained in the white lines or you'll get a ticket!

The band concert doesn't start until the evening so you won't hit that crowd in the afternoon. It'll be more crowded downtown if it's not a beach day.

Everything is on Rt. 28 and it can be quite confusing since it goes in all directions. Be sure to bring a good map...seriously. Another attraction to drivers on Friday afternoon will be those arriving for the Friday evening band concert. Nevertheless there is a lot of parking around. If all else fails try parking over by Oyster Pond which is not too far to walk to Main St. If you want to see the action at the Fish Pier (drive there before parking) be sure to be there around high tide. That's when the boats return. Also, when you arrive into Chatham (and keep driving, it's farther than you might think) you will go around a small rotary and then you'll drive through the shopping area. Keep going to the dead end and then turn right to the lighthouse. Park for up to 30 minutes right there and drink in the gorgeous scenery. Then turn back along that road but bypass Main (Rt 28) St. and continue on Shore Rd. After you see Chatham Bars Inn on the left begin watching for the Fish Pier lot on the right. If you still have time after this then head back to shop on Main St. One of the shops that's a lot of fun is Yankee Ingenuity. Enjoy.

You can also stay in Orleans and shop when you leave the beach. Big Christmas Tree shop on 28, lots of shops in the "downtown" area. Some interesting shops including the bird store which is a fun place to visit. Take a right onto 28 and head towards the Rotary for that. Look for Trees Place at the intersection of 28 and 6A. Oceana in the parking lot off Main street near Snow's has lovely things. And of course, Snow's itself is well worth a visit. Can spend a lot of time there!!
