We're agonizing over where to stay during an end-of-July trip. Five of us altogether, and for a couple of us air conditioning is a factor if there's a heat wave (which no one can predict, and which, of course, is very unlikely).
Here are the two choices and the pros and cons for us:
1) Rangeley Inn - We've stayed here before, it's a lovely place. But last time we were with another couple, this time with kids. Is it conducive to kids? I'm wondering. Also, as this property is not on Rangeley Lake (on Haley Pond, which we've heard you're not supposed to swim in because of waterfowl), we'll miss the chance for the kids to just wake up and go for a quick swim in the lake. Air conditioning is a plus (but how likely is it that we'll need it, after all?).
2) Town and Lake Motel and Cottages - More of a standard motel. We've stayed here, too. Biggest plus is it's right on the Lake, but it's a bit less charming and, possibly, a bit more noisy (since each unit, even the cottages, fronts the lawn that might be used by others who might happen to wake up early). Also, there's no air conditioning, so on that very rare hot day, how muggy might it be at night?
Well, those are our choices -- unless somebody knows another place suitable for a family our size. They're both great places, so we're most interested in hearing about those pros and cons that folks with personal experience can describe. Thanks, all!
