suggested route to Jefferson, Maine from Hamilton, Ontario

My husband and I are travelling to Maine on September 3rd and having to return on September 10th. Looking for a somewhat scenic route and not all interstates, stopping for one night on the way. Any suggestions?

You could take the northern route. Of course, that would mean getting through Toronto first. But then you could travel though the 1000 Island region. Gananoque is nice. Then come into the states in upstate New York and drive through the Adirondacks to Lake Placid, which is a pretty lakeside town that hosted the winter Olympics. Then down through Vermont and New Hampshire, taking the Kancamagus Highway to North Conway. And on into Maine. The long way. Probably would need to stop two nights on the road. But very scenic.

thank you Bonnie. We do plan on taking the Kancamagus Highway. Have done it before and really liked it. However just have time to stop for 1 night. We were thinking of taking the ferry crossing at Port Kent, N.Y. and stopping in St. Johnsbury
