chebeague island

thinking of renting a cottage this summer on the island. never been to maine - is this a good choice? looking for a relaxing time by the ocean with some activities for the kids- dumb question but is there a bridge or do you have to take a ferry which would also transport a car???

There is no bridge and no cars allowed on ferry. Leave car on mainland. Very isolated if that is what you are looking for; although once on the mainland (Yarmouth)you are close to many activities in Greater Portland. There are other islands with direct ferry service to Portland (e.g. Peaks) which may be more suitable.

Chebeague is a beautiful island and Yarmouth certainly has enough in the way of restaurants and shops to satisfy your needs. If you're looking for quiet and relaxation, it's a good choice. If you need better access to more kid activities than nature provides, then as the previous comment suggested, an island with direct access to Portland may be more your style.
