Contemplating a move: Bath, Camden or Yarmouth?

We've been thinking about moving to Maine for years and have narrowed it down to Bath, Camden and Yarmouth but are very much open to other suggestions. We're looking for hiking trails, dog friendly community, interesting architecture, accessibility for our children to visit and a great library. My husband is a Clinical Psychologist and is hoping to continue in private practice if and when we do make the move. We're moving from a very small walk to everything town but it has become quite congested and there has been a lot of building and razing of small older homes replaced with oversize structures leading us to include in our search a community that values preservation. Thanks for any insights, ideas or suggestions!

Portland. It is a small city with decent job opportunities for clinical psychologist, you do not state what your profession is. Bath exists for BIW and very little oppt for a psych even though lots would need it. Yarmouth is a suburb of Portland, nothing there except nice real estate - people would work and look for a psych in Portland. Camden is a summer resort destination.

TA is travel, not relocation. Check City-data.com for these kinds of questions.

Sounds like you'd like to be near a major airport so Yarmouth certainly suits best, but of the 3 it's probably the one mostly likely to see great growth over the next 10-15 years as Portland gets overcrowded.

Have you visited Bath before? I don't think it presents the quality-of-life aspect that they other two have, or a small-town atmosphere. Camden is great but traffic quadruples in July and August, and you don't have the benefit of having a large city just 12 minutes away which makes Yarmouth more appealing.

Clinical Psychologist in Bath is actually very appealing, there are some clinicians but definitely in need or more in the area. Yarmouth and Portland are both a reasonable drive. Traffic in Bath also quadruples in late June through the beginning of September. There are several nearby libraries as well as school buildings where resources can be utilized. We have lived in Bath for 14 years and are close enough to everything to make it easily accessible but not so close we feel smothered. There is a great dog park and Topsham which is very nearby has a wonderful bike path. There are many nearby hiking areas as well, Bailey Island, being about 12 miles out is my favorite.
