In Burlington for one day

Hello,

I am going to be in Burlington for one day in mid to late May and I am looking for something to keep me occupied. My friends and I are saying on Roosevelt Ave near I-34 and we don't have a car but we do have bikes. Is there a historic section? Museums? I know bald eagles frequent the area but is that only in winter and is there a bald eagle center, like there is in Wabasha, MN? Thanks for any tips.

I want to see Snake Alley sometime. Some say it is the twistiest street in the world, or USA. Both claims are doubtful. It features in an annual bike race. The nearby residential area is supposed to feature some big old houses. Plug "Snake Alley" in a Google search and look at the map to see how the street curves.

I can't help you with the eagles. I still see an occasional eagle in the Davenport area, but they are not congregating at the river like they do in the winter. Sorry I am not more help, I have been to and through Burlington on business, but have not had time to linger.

Thank you for the response. I plan to visit Snake Alley but I am thinking that will take up about 10 minutes of the day. I hear Burlington is a nice, small town and I am sure I will enjoy just walking around.

Walk or bike north of the downtown area and see all the big historic houses. You could also visit the casino there and go hiking at Star's Cave and park nearby.

Roosevelt is the busy street, but if you are willing to bike, you can do Snake Alley, the new Library is excellent, there is a museum in the old library (not sure of hours) We have several parks. There is a bike path in progress, part is finished along the river. No eagle museum or really eagles that time of year, but the welcome center is down by the river. The Casino in on Roosevelt. for more info: www.growburlington.com/visit_welcome.cfm

If you're willing to travel there by bike... I would visit Pzazz / FunCity. It accommodates all ages and has a 21+ side of the hotel called the Catfish Bend. It has a casino and you can also visit the resturaunts and bars right in the building!
