Worst to best seats at Indy 500

I have seats in the northwest vista, what should I request for upgrades? I would guess, in order of best to least:

Paddock penthouse

Stand A Penthouse

Stand B Penthouse

Stand E Penthouse

Northwest Vista Deck

Am I thinking right? Northwest vista is pretty nice but I would imagine the penthouse seats are better?

Are the Penthouse seats much better than theh Northwest vista deck?

NONE of those are bad at all - actually, all are excellent - for varying reasons.

Generally, in the penthouses, it's better to be either in the lowest or highest rows - lowest, unimpeded views of wide stretches of the track; highest, you can stand up whenever you want (and lean against the back railing) and have nearly unimpeded views.

Paddock and the A & B stands give you good views of the pits and the front straight - the Paddock is probably the best in this regard. The Stand E penthouse can give you a great view of the front straight, the south end of the pits, and the entire sweep of the first turn & short chute - or a great view of the front straight, the first turn, short chute, and most of the second turn (with less of a view of the pits than the north end of the E Stand penthouse). The others are kind of in between.

I've never sat in the NW Vista Deck - but would think these would be great seats in terms of their views - and any row would be fine here (think there are only two). But I'd lean towards the Stand E or Paddock penthouse seats (depending on whether you want to get the full effect of the flying start, pits, and finish (Paddock) or the sweep of the entrance to turn one through turn two (Stand E).

I have Stand E Penthouse tickets for the Brickyard race and had them for the F1 race. In my view, they are the best seats in the house. Good luck getting an upgrade for the 500, though. I think this is my 15th year attempting to get to Stand E Penthouse and have yet to succeed.

Thanks for your input, I am going to request Paddock Penthouse, then Stand E Penthouse and then Northwest Vista. Realistcly I probably wont get any but might as well try. Even if I don't upgrade my seats in Northwest Vista are great! First year in them and it was even better than I expected!

Pretty impressive - watching them accelerate towards the start (or restart) from that stand, eh?

Plus, you saw some pretty good passes - and the Tony Kanaan/Sara Fisher incident.

Although the folks in the E Penthouse had the primo seats for the "Pass of the Decade" (Vitor Meira's pass of Dan Wheldon and whoever was leading the restart late in the race).

I had Paddock seats in row G right across trom The Pagoda. Although they were to low it was great fro the pits. Right across fro Rahal/Lettermen's Ryan Hunter-Reay. I think I still like being in one of the turns though. I wish the press would quit talkng about the pit exit accident and focus more on the great drives by Dixon, Meira, Marco, AND ED CARPENTER!!

All publicity is good publicity I suppose. But you're right, the drives by Carpenter and Meira were particularly enjoyable as they are not normally considered among IndyCar's elites. Either could have won the thing too (well, Wheldon was AWFULLY strong - and very deserving).
