Solo in Sarasota

Hi. I am a single female in my 40's who enjoys solo travel. I am looking for a walkable area near the beach with easy access to markets, possible art galleries, etc.

Looking for a friendly casual environment (for example with interesting coffee shops).

Any opinions on Lido Key, Siesta Key or Venice? Other options are welcome too.

The galleries, markets and boutiques are in downtown Sarasota. That is your best option..very easy to walk.

Lido Key had St. Armands Circle...some art, no markets..

Venice does not have art galleries etc.

How much did you want to spend per night on lodging? How long do you plan to stay and when?

that would help with options.

Siesta Key has 2 coffee shops, no art galleries and some markets..nice beaches and a free shuttle to get around.

Hi SRQgirl and thank you for your reply.

I am thinking of going in August for about 4 nights with a budget of around $125/night. In Siesta Key are the beaches within walking distance of the markets, coffee shops, etc.?

Would you say that Downtown Sarasota/Lido Beach or Siesta Key would be better for a solo traveler?

Depends on what you want.

$125/night will restrict your lodging options. You are also planning to visit at the height of hurricane season.

It will be extremely hot and humid.

On Siesta Key you could stay across the street from the beach.

Ringling Beach House will rent by the night and is walking distance to the Village..not sure about price..

Most places rent by the week. There are no big chain hotels/motels on SK.

Places by Crescent Beach have Crescent Plaza (with market and some dining) and a free shuttle to the Village.

Capri Inn

Captiva Beach Resort

Tropical Beach Resorts

On Lido Key, there is a Holiday Inn-Lido Key..across from the beach and less expensive..

St. Armands is 2 blocks away...short walk.

There is no beach in downtown Sarasota...the Hotel Ranola might be in your price range.

Aloft, Hotel Indigo and others will be more $$$.

You can read reviews under the "Hotel" section of Siesta Key, Sarasota etc.

Will you have a car?

You might also consider Anna Maria Island.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide all of this information and I will now look into all of these options.

Which area out of those mentioned might be a good option for a solo traveler e.g. Lido Key, Siesta Key, Crescent Beach, etc.?

I will not have a car and don't mind taking some shuttles.

It really depends on you and what you want. Lido Key has St Armands circle, with upscale shops and restaurants and coffee shops, and art galleries. Its a more upscale area.

Siesta Key is more beachy casual, with less going on, more casual shops and restaurants. Crescent beach is on Siesta Key.

Downtown has more shops and stuff, but the beach is over a bridge, not within walking distance.

As far as what would be best for solo traveler, again, it depends on what you want. Solitude? People? Peace and quiet, or action? Your budget is low-ish.

Thanks Lemstar and SRQgirl for great suggestions. Casual friendly people in the town and on the beach sound most appealing

One more question....... are there changing facilities and bathrooms on Siesta Key and Lido beach?

Yes, there are concessions, rest rooms on Siesta Key Public Beach.

I think that would be your best option.

Thanks Dave S. and SRQ girl.

When heading to Siesta Key Beach in a ride-share car, which address should the driver go to?

Is there a nearby laid back place to grab a cup of coffee and light meal either nearby or on the beach?

After leaving the beach, is there a walkable area with casual shops and if so, on what streets?

I don't understand your question... will you be staying on Siesta Key? staying somewhere else?

Siesta Key has a free trolley to get around..

There are good food concessions at the SK Public Beach pavilion. That would be the address on Beach Rd.

You can "google" Siesta Key Public Beach and see all that is available.
