6 days Orlando

Hi there,

Need some good advice.

We fly into Miami and plan to travel up to Orlando.

However, we are not sure whether now we should spend 1-2nights in Miami and rest in Orlando.

We are a young couple (mid twenties), we will do disney and Universal, obviously won’t be able to fit everything in with the amount of time we have.

But main concern is, is there enough to do in Orlando, for example, if we were at a Disney park at 9 in the morning would you not get bored after good few hours at it?, is it possible to fit other parks in?

We are both into theme parks but thinking should we do a bit of Miami too.

Is there plenty to do in Orlando besides the parks?

Thanks,

Shane

I personally believe there's enough in Orlando to keep you busy for much longer than you even have. Miami is also more expensive, even though Orlando isn't cheap.

Do you have 6 days including 2 days in Miami, therefore 4 days in Orlando? I think you need to look at what park tickets you are going to get and work it out from there. You don’t get good value for short stays and it may be more cost effective overall to just do Orlando.

There are 4 Disney parks plus 2 Universal parks, not including water parks.

Despite its "cool" reputation, I think South Beach in Miami is gross. It's certainly unsafe. Watch your back there at night. If you want to explore more of Florida than just the Orlando parks, a trip over to Cocoa Beach to visit the Johnson Space Center would be a cool day. You might also enjoy the very tropical warm water beaches of Florida's west coast. From Naples up to Tampa, the water is warm, waves gentle and beaches like sugar. As a young couple you could drive across the Tamiami Trail from Miami to Naples and work your way over a day or two up the west coast to Tampa, enjoying the many nice little towns on the west coast. It's only an hour from Tampa to Orlando. Driving in Florida is easy, with good highways and good signage.

As for Orlando, most of the parks are a full day each. At Disney, the exception is Studios, which is still rebuilding. By this time next year, they might have the new Star Wars Land open, which will dramatically change things. If you are thrill-seekers, Universal has lots of astronaut training rides, along with must-do things like Harry Potter. Sea World is more fun than you might think. Check their web site to see what interests you.

So at a minimum, you've got Magic Kingdom, Animal Adventure, EPCOT, Universal and Sea World that are each at least a day.

I'm not sure you could jog and see all of any one of the parks in "a good few hours".

Even with express/fast passes, that just enough time for a few rides.

And depending on what you are looking for (aside from parks) -- Miami/SoBe is certainly a place to experience (we visit regularly). Nicer beaches and people-watching than the central coast and a better places if you are looking trendy, swanky, hot clubs with the "haves and the have nots" line out front. However, Orlando is much better for live music and more laid-back bar scene.

You don’t need to be worried of running out of things to do. You have 4 Disney theme parks, 2 Disney water parks, 2 Universal theme parks, Universals Volcano Bay (water park), SeaWorld, Aquatica (water park) Legoland with a small waterpark as well plus Fun Spot USA, the Orlando Eye, Starflyer, Madame Tussaud’s, Ripleys, Gatorland, Swamp boats, iFly indoor skydiving, several Golf Courses plus mini golf, Go Kart tracks and Disney Springs. This is not a comprehensive list.

If all that bores you in 6 days, you can go to Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral or Busch Gardens in Tampa.

All the best

Hey Shane- Ive been to Disney World several times and South Beach, Miami Beach and Miami several times with my girlfriend. Here’s our take on how to handle your situation. 6 days in Orlando doesn’t even scratch the surface of just things to do and see in Disney World not to mention Universal Studios, Sea World and Orlando itself. This is how we do it and we go to both every year- we spend 10 days in Orlando mainly at Disney World but also Universal Studios. Even at 10 days we maybe get to see and do half of what we would like to but it definitely gives us a great chance to do a lot of what we want to do. We usually go right about now to Disney World because it’s a lower traffic time to go. We spend 10 days in Miami in February for Valentines Day or two weeks in Hawaii depending on deals, schedules, wants and needs. I would tell you to go to Disney World and US if you really want to see it and focus on and enjoy that. Plan another trip to come back to Miami so you can truly get a feel for both and not feel rushed or like you’re missing out cuz you had to compromise. Let us know how it goes!

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. It’s really helped us a lot. I think we’re going to concentrate on Orlando this round and visit Miami at a later date sometime in the future !!

So we’ll do Disney probably 2 parks and 2 Universal parks, where should we stay, we like to stroll around in the evening/night as well for restaurants and catch a drink or any activities/entertainment.

I was thinking around the Disney springs area/lake buena vista?? Anyone have a rough idea how much Uber/taxi be to universal from this location ? Or should we stay in International drive?

Thanks

Shane

Consider staying at Universal again. No need for a car for nightlife- everything is walkable, much more so than Disney area things. Look up CityWalk.

There are lots of price tiers at Universal. Hard Rock, Portofino and Royal Pacific come with express passes, which are pretty sweet. All come with early entry.

If you stay on I-Drive, pick one of the hotels SOUTH of Sea World. There are four suites hotels on the northeast corner of International Drive and Central Florida Parkway. It's a good location. But, if you want something more romantic, check the rates at the JW Marriott Grande Lakes. The rates there are sometimes a happy surprise, and nobody outdoes the JW/Ritz. Also consider the Marriott Grande Lakes. It's a Marriott Vacation Club property just another 2 miles south of the aforementioned suites hotels. You don't have to be a VC member, and some of the suites are really nice. Plus it's very quiet and safe.
