Are there any areas on gulf with old Florida style motels that are right on the gulf?
What does a NYer consider "Fl. style"?
Haha...I remember the low 1 to 3 story motels where you could walk from your room to the sand. Basic but clean is all I expect.
The big boys and $$$ have taken over the beach. There may be a few north just off Mandalay, but I haven't seen them yet! ;)
Maybe you will find something on this site......
I agree with jillbozz, areas south of clearwater has an old time vibe.
Clearwater is not bad, i like the wyndhams location, and 5 minutes south has the old efficiency motels.
St. Pete Beach is full of them!
Do you have any that you would recommend?
We stay at the Coral resort cool little place. It's on the intercoastal side but only another a 5 minute walk to the beautuful beach!!
Just back from Clearwater beach . Stayed at Frenchy's motel, just 2 blocks away from beach. Definitely old style motel only 2 floors high, very retro and certainly spotless. Lovely pool and we had a super view of the bay from our upstairs balcony. Fishing dock right outside.Frenchy's Saltwater cafe right across the road. Bonus in Clearwater is outside , free parking.
