Best Day/Night Activities for 2 Families with Older Teens

Understandably, we will be skiing much of the day, but are mainly beginner and intermediate skiers (some who may want to take a break to shop/spa/sight-see/explore/snowmobile/etc). Also looking for some night-life for 6, 17-20 yr olds. Any must see, must do's, restaurants or activities(especially for New Years eve)? We will be there Dec 27-Jan 1.

I haven't been there for the holidays so I'd have to research some of the things going on, but I'll comment on one must-do activity if you'll have a car or can rent one for a day. Head over to Ouray for playing in the hot springs pool...really fun and a unique winter experience. Might check out San Juan Mountain Guides to see what is available for beginner ice climbing.

Check out Ride with Roudy for winter horseback rides or a sleigh ride. http://www.ridewithroudy.com/?page_id=7 Cross country skiing or snowshoeing can be a great break from downhill and the teens will probably want to try ice skating. www.telluride-co.gov/index.aspx?NID=182

If you like national parks, the Black Canyon Natl Park is within day trip range (or depending on flight times if you're coming in to Montrose airport, you might take a peek upon arrival or before departure.) The South Rim is just east of Montrose. The road is open to Gunnison Point and past that you can cross country ski or snowshoe, (or hike)depending on snow cover.

Some people go to Mesa Verde Natl Park from Telluride as a day trip, but IMO it is just a bit far esp. In the winter.

Are you flying in to Montrose then driving? Or shuttle? In either case, tell everyone to watch for deer, elk, wild turkeys, eagles along the way and possibly bighorn sheep when you get to where there are canyon walls along the roadway.
