with the cost of airline fees for ski bag, I was thinking of renting skis (with the possibility of bringing my own boots).

I am looking for a recommendation on a place(s) to do this. I am staying at snowmass mountain chalet

thanks

4 Mountain Sports is the only place I've used. Nice because they'll store your skis free if you rent thru them and transport them overnight to any of the 4 mountains. Info at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/onmountain/rentals/dandesports.cfm.

Do you know if you are able to pick up your skis the night before?

if you mean get your skis the night before your first day of skiing . . . yes, and I recommend it rather than waiting till the morning. Even if you advance sign up online you must still fill the information out again on their online kiosk. I never have rec'd a good answer as to why, but this takes time and you'll be there with many others.

thanks,

that was quick. That is exactly what I was looking for. I think I will rent the demo skis. I am bringing my own boots that my wife bought for me last year.

My current ski's are wood composite and so I should notice some difference.

I was just taking a look at your profile and boy your username says it all!

This is my first trip to snowmass and 2nd to co. First was 18 years ago to cooper and breckenridge.

So what are your favorite places to go?

For food at Snowmass my favs are:

Gwyn's High Alpine --reservations a must. food excellent.

Up 4 PIzza --some of the best pizza I ever ate. Good hot choc too. At the top of Big Burn lift. NY Pizza on the Mall isn't bad either for a quick bite.

Sam's Smokehouse --new this year and I look forward to trying it out. Take Sam's Knob lift to top.

List of on mtn eats at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/onmountain/dining/default.cfm. Maps are at http://www.aspensnowmass.com/onmountain/trailmaps/default.cfm.

If you go the Highlands the Cloud Nine Bistro is outstanding on a clear day. Even on a cloudy day the food is outstanding. Again, reserve now.
