Affordable accommodation for 5, easy commute to San Fran

We are 2 adults and 3 children (ages 8,10 and 11), travelling to San Fran for 3 nights on 31st July. We do have something booked but it's out in Dublin and were hoping to find something at a good price (max $650/£500 inc taxes) a bit closer. Happy to drive short distance to park car for public transport as long as parking spaces won't be a problem and the commute is max 45 mins (anything from Daly City up to Marin County). Am pretty sure I have checked out most options now but it's always worth an ask!

Please go to the SF forum and read the top questions on budget hotels and for a family of 5

Stay in SF (San Francisco abbreviation ) to see SF

don;t know what you mean -- no hotels for 5, prices higher than what you want to pay ? 190 per night is low for 5 people

So look at SFO hotels in South SF, Millbrae, San Bruno. There are 2 embassy suites there.

generally 4 is what most hotels allow so you need to do a lot of research to find such a hotel

What came up as options?

Start with airport area hotels.

I also remember a family recently did a trip report of staying in Marin County over Memorial Day - in Corte Madera maybe?

Yes, price is the issue. Been researching since last October so this is a last ditch attempt to see if we've missed anything. Thanks.

With due respect if you have been searching since Oct then I doubt you will find something in SF now this late. Thousands visit the city and stay in the hotels and motels listed in our top questions - hotels for 5 and have found rooms in that budget in Summer

So I am not sure what to say. Do remember that staying outside SF will add about 40 -45 to your daily budget on transit at a minimum and with 3 kids you will spend an hour each way commuting

Also look at the East Bay and the Emeryvile area

The Days Inn Hayes Valley (in SF) has a room with 2 King beds for $692 including taxes and continental breakfast. Also free parking (though you don't need a car in SF). Some hotels will allow 3 young children, so call and ask. Maybe they will add a cot or kids can sleep 3 to the bed.

A car costs at least $85/day (rental plus parking) if you stay outside the city. Are you factoring that into your costs? BART x5 also adds up round trip.

Good luck. I looked briefly on TA and Expedia and even 2 star places are much over $200 out of SF. Must be a big event that weekend.

Dublin is far. Anything closer on the East Bay or South Bay?

Not tried that 1, thanks. Got a great deal on a car as doing a big 3-week road trip but prob won't use it in the city.
