Car in San Franciso

Wife and I will be visiting SF and were wondering if you really need a car to see all the sites.

South San Feancisco is a different town than SF and, if fact, they don't share a border.

But the quick answer to your question is NO you don't need a car. And this question is discussed in more detail in the SF Top Questions.

And South City is a different city from SF.

Errrr...you are not planning on staying in South San Francisco, are you? Curious why you posted on this forum.

Just in case, it is not recommended to stay in South San Francisco to visit the city of San Francisco.

If you're staying in South SF and you're not within walking distance of the South SF Caltrain station, it actually would be useful to have a car so you can drive into SF. Otherwise, you'll have to shuttle back to the airport where you can catch BART. That would be a huge pain.

If you're staying in SF, you won't need a car.

You generally don't need a car in SF. For almost any place in the eastern part of the city it is a lot of trouble and expense to park a vehicle. Only a few places in SF are more easily reached with a car like Twin Peaks, the Golden Gate Bridge, Cliff House, and the Great Highway.
