Ideas for a father/son trip?

We'll be there for the weekend in late March. He's 16 years old and interested in trying new adventures. Jet skiing, maybe a surf lesson? It's our first time in Santa Cruz and I'm looking to have a memorable trip? Any fun ideas or "must do's"?

I don't know if there are jetski in SC. Definitely surf lessons, zipline, and SUP.

Hi,

Here are two surfing schools in Santa Cruz. The first is probably the best known, and they have everything your son would need...they also do stand up paddle board (known as "SUP" by those in the know.)

I have seen jet skis in the Bay, but can't find a source to rent them (my computer is not liking google today) There is a jet ski repair shop so they must be somewhere. Our son, some years back, bought his girlfriend a parasail trip. There is also paraboarding. (The latter use parachutes to catch the wind.)

The canopy tour at Mt. Hermon would be an adventure. This is relatively new in the area, so I have no experience with it, but people love it.

There are also great hikes in Big Basin Redwoods State Park near Boulder Creek, and whale watching expeditions on the Bay from the Municipal Wharf.

And of course, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Perhaps he would enjoy a ride on the 100-year old Big Dipper.....a wooden roller coaster with a different experience from the metal ones in the theme parks.

Here is a traveler article on Santa Cruz, for an overview. Please come back to the Forum if you need help on lodging, eats, etc.

I think you and your son will have a good time here....You may wish you had more than a weekend. :~)

You did not put your home base in your profile.....where are you from?

Have a great trip.

I agree what the others have said and would add:

Kayaking
