Is Long Beach safe?

We will be in the LA area 12/29/2018-1/3/2019 and we are scheduled to land at and depart from the LGB airport. We will be renting a car. Is Long Beach a safe area to stay in? We are thinking about the Hilton Long Beach or an Air B&B or other rental in the Long Beach area. Is it a good place or should we make reservations somewhere else? I did a Google search but everything I read was a couple years old.

Don’t stay in Long Beach if you’re visiting LA.

The Downtown Long Beach area is pretty safe and so are Belmont Shores and Naples, but Long Beach wouldn't be my first choice of places to stay in the LA area.

Long Beach is too far from LA to use as a base.

generally the divide for long beach is anything east of the traffic circle is okay, anything west of the traffic circle is dicey and north long beach. anything that is coastal long beach is pretty nice also.

What do you want to see in LA?

While it looks short on miles to get around, Long Beach Port Traffic can be very busy and hectic.

Once you advise on that, its better to advise if Long Beach works or not.

We have tickets for the Rose Parade on January 1 and to see the floats before and after the parade, but those are the only things we have planned right now and also the only things we are doing in Pasadena. We want to stay somewhere safe and where we can see several things around the LA area without driving too far. Where would you suggest?

Yes, Texas is safe. Thanks for asking.

You can take Metro to the Rose Parade from Long Beach.

This is from last year's but for some info

https:/…

Queen Mary in Long Beach is a good place for New Years.

For day time activites the aquarium and hour long boat ride in Long Beach are fun./

So if you are interested in those things, Long Beach works

Port will be bit quieter due to the Holidays.

Long Beach is a tiny bit maze-like. And, while you may only be going to Pasadena for 31-1/2 of January, there's very little to see in Long Beach (IMO) other than the Aquarium and Queen Mary (if you are into the history of the place). So why would you stay there? There's so much else to see, you need to ask if the Queen Mary would have been your top priority out of all the places in L.A.

What do you like to do? Did you find a budget for a hotel in LB that seemed cheaper (be sure to read reviews here and on booking.com)? Pasadena is of course really expensive during the Rose Parade...but it would be cool to be closer to the party.

Some people like being out on the edges of L.A., totally get that, but maybe closer to Pasadena? The other tourist sights?

I think Long Beach is too far. I'd stay in Downtown LA or Hollywood without a car, with a car, West Hollywood/Beverly Center.
