La Jolla Inn or ...?

Looking at spending 5 nights here in Feb. as understand good downtown seaside location, non-weekend rates affordable for me and free parking with ocean view. A niece who lived in San Diego recommended La Jolla as very scenic and would recommend area.

Recent reviews here positive but previous ones a little iffy and wondering if good base for exploring San Diego area including north along coast? No frills fine as long as clean and fairly quiet and secure.

Realize La Jolla quite expensive and other option that doesn't seem to have oceanview and is in price range is the La Jolla Best Western.

On previous posts the other highly recommended option in price range in San Diego area was Inn at Sunset Cliffs that could also include kitchen. Another option might be a few nights here at and a few nights at La Jolla Inn - maybe at either end of a week exploring other areas of California.

Any thoughts on above welcomed.

I think the La Jolla Best Western might be a better choice as it is on a quieter street and is walking distance to the ocean. While you are sleeping you don't need a view.

I wouldn't change hotels for such a short stay. The Inn at Sunset Cliffs might be nice but the area around La Jolla Cove has more restaurants shops etc. in walking distance.

Thanks riffsmom. In addition to being near beach is the La Jolla Best Western within easy walking distance of the downtown shops, eating places, etc? ie is it right downtown as I gather that is good place to stay in La Jolla.

Sorry ,YES it is right downtown . There a re several streets that have shops ,restaurants etc not just one. It is not on Prospect which is the main drag with most cars using it to enter the area.It is on a street that it perpendicular (right corners) to Prospect.

Also ran across Redwood Hollow Cottages that look to be a possibility for a week's stay. Couldn't find any recent reviews and wondered if any thoughts on these. Clean and central location only prerequisites. Any thoughts on these by anyone who has stayed there - looking at the studio ones. riffsmom: your thoughts also always welcomed.
