wasps/bees on the beach at La Jolla Shores

We were in La Jolla Shores last week and noticed lots and lots of dead/dying little bee/wasp things at the edge of the water. Unfortunately, I managed to step on one and it stung me. Hurt like heck for several hours and then my foot itched for an entire week. You can still see a red area on my foot around where the sting was.

Does anyone know what type of insect this was? I am concerned that I may have had an allergic reaction to it as right after if happened I started having severe lower back pain that is still going on almost 2 weeks later. Could be coincidence, but maybe not. Thanks!

Go to seek for medical help! You may have an allergic reaction, we won't know. For your health's sake.

This is a travel forum. I very much doubt we can provide you medical advice.

It was most likely a bee. I see them occasionally on the beach. As HappyFeet said, see a doctor.
