We will have a day or two (with car, of course) in August in the area before picking up our son from camp in Napa. We are looking for an inexpensive place to stay. Last year, we were blown away by the prices in Napa, Sonoma, and even Petaluma, so we used Novato as a base which was...cheap, but also pretty colorless, and resulted in a lot of driving as we visited Petaluma and places in Napa. We don't need to do as much sightseeing as last time, and so Guerneville is a possiblity.
I remember cabins near Guernville as a child; do they still exist? We aren't campers but we can't afford major $$$ for the lovely rentals or luxurious b and b's we've seen online. (Does anyone rent a room with kitchen privileges, or run a less-fancy b and b?) I hope one of you expert locals will have some advice for budget digs-- and maybe restaurants, too? TIA
