Need Advice to Choose a Spa in DHS

Greetings - We will be visiting PS soon and are looking forward to experiencing the hot springs pools on a day pass. Since we will have our tween with us, I have found 2 places which seem to allow kids: Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel and Sam's Family Hot Spa. In looking around, I read online that DHS has had a tough time for a while with higher crime, drugs, etc. Our plan was to visit the hot springs in the late afternoon probably on a weekday. Given that it gets dark around 4:30, how are the areas around these two spas, are they safe after dark and which would be the better choice to visit for a few hours to have a swim? Thank you.

We have gone to Desert Hot Springs many times because we like soaking in the waters there and you cannot do that in Palm Springs except at the casino hotel.

We have never had a problem with crime or drugs!! We are seniors and would notice those issues!! I am not saying these problems don't exist but they don't seem to affect visitors.

I don't know Sams but the Desert Hot Springs Spa Hotel has been there for many years.

Not sure why you'd be coming so late but in any case I wouldn't worry about danger and just go anytime that you can. There's a nice local pizza place nearby if you'd like to sit for a simple meal after your soak:

Thank you for the info and the pizza tip! We were thinking of visiting Joshua Tree in the morning and early afternoon and then winding the day down with a soak in the hot springs pools in the late afternoon.
