Vote for your top sunset spot in Monterey/Carmel area

I have identified 6 spots for sunset but sadly we only have 3 nights

We will be visiting during the 2nd week in Sept when the sun sets around 7:20 PM

The ideal spot would have some interesting foreground scenery (rocks, crashing waves, windblown gnarly shrubbery, etc, I think you get the idea) rather than just the sun sinking into the sea.

Which of these would you choose:

Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove

Carmel Beach

Carmel River State Beach

Fort Ord Dunes in Monterey

Garrapata Beach

Point Lobos at Sea Lion Point

Asiloomar or Point Lobos - these are our two favorite sunset spots.

Point Lobos closes at 7pm. Garrapata has rock formations on the beach. Cypress trees line the pathway above Carmel Beach along Scenic Rd.

Doin' a write-in vote: Sunset Lounge at the Highlands Inn (4 mi S of Carmel)...rocks, crashing waves and, of course, a sunset. All while enjoying a beverage, full dinner or bar menu. Just another variation on the theme.

Just north of Asilomar, at Point Pinos. You can get rocks and crashing waves in the foreground easily as you can easily get up on the rocks.

You get great sunsets from Fort Ord, but there's not much for foreground. It's all sand dunes. It's tough to get back from the beach after sunset too because you then have to walk back in the dark (the trails are not really maintained).

A nice evening is also getting dinner or drinks at Salt Wood in Marina, then walking out to the top of the dune and watching the sunset there. You can see the water from the restaurant, but you get a better view closer. Again, though: no rocks.

Great suggestions so far! Keep 'em coming! ... but since I want to do some photography let's stick with outdoor locations. Thanks!

I'd be more interested in hearing about restaurants with views, myself. I have never been to the Highlander, now I want to go so #4 gets my vote - and also Carmel Beach. Humans go there, though, in larger numbers than Garrapata.

Lovers Point might be one to check out too.
