Plakias in November

We are thinking of visiting our favourite Crete next year but we can only do it beginning of November. We would like to stay couple of nights in Plakias. It looks like there is not a problem with accommodation but are there any restaurants opened? We know it will be quiet (we are from Greek island too) but we would like to have some options for eating out.

Hi

Plakias at November is like all small Greek villages.

There are a couple of cafe/tavern in the beach road open with a small variety of food.

There is also one super market and one or two mini markets open all year round.

Thank you for your answer Dimitri, If there is a possibility to find something to eat and to order morning coffee we are happy with this.

We always have a car for our whole stay so we plan to visit also villages above Plakias and I suppose there are tavernas also.

Hi there

I am sure you will enjoy Crete in November :-) it really is lovely out of season, we spent a week there in November last year and are back again next week, so can't wait, it's a great time for visiting the archeological sites and museums too...if you need any other tips or ideas where to visit then do just ask as we have a few regular posters who live on the island including our DE gerlion, so they will be able to give you loads of info on Crete out of season :-) happy planning

Hi cikona

You find much more than something to eat and just to order a coffe!

November is also the month that village people get ready to collect the olives and in some places where the olives get more sun they have already started picking.

This can be an unforgettable experience and even more so if you happen to be in a fest in the olive fields where families improvise and make barbeque and drink and play music (even from inside the car).

Thank you for all your answers. We know some parts of Crete quite well and we have very good friends there also, in the central Crete in the mountain village so we know how the Crete can be. From Plakias we want to visit some parts we haven' t been yet like Frangokastelo and we want to go back to Preveli for sure and to the monastery there. We got engaged in Preveli 2 years ago and it is a must :).

About the collecting olives: this is what I did yesterday and what I have to do tomorrow again, in Zakynthos where we live we have a lot of collecting this winter but without picnic.

We are really looking forward to visit Crete again, now we had 2 seasons gap and we really miss it so much.
