Plakias mid-may

Looking at current deals around 12May - but bit concerned it might be toooo quiet then? If it's not hot enough to swim/snorkel and beach all day, would we be at a loss for things to do - dont drive but happy to get buses (if they run off-season)?

Any advice appreciated

Thx

Air temperatures will surely be hot enough to swim and snorkel. Sea temperatures are still slightly cool, mid-May, but perfectly swimmable unless you require a warm bath (in which case wait until July-August-September).

It won't be too quiet, either. The season begins at Easter (16 April) and will be well underway by mid-May. It won't be as busy as in high summer, but not quiet either.

Hi,

Be sure buses will be operating then. The time you have chosen to visit Plakias is ideal.

There are several good walks from Plakias. This summer we were in Plakias for 4 days without a car. We hiked along the cliff face at the end of the beach. That extended into a hike along some paths and roads to a series of beaches. Going the other way about three kilometers along the road past the port is Souda beach. If the wind is strong at Plakias the chances are you might find one of the other beaches to be sheltered.

There are villages high up in the mountains behind Plakias. We hiked up and visited one of them. Next time I think we will take a taxi up wander around and then walk back down.

There were lots of people hopping on the KTEL bus and doing a day trip to Rethymnon.

You could also take a taxi to Prevalli monastery and hike down to the famous palm beach.

There is lots to do in Plakias.

May can be a lovely time to go. The Spring flowers will be out, and there will still be May Day garlands on house doors.

I was last year april in plakias .Plakias has a lot of restaurants, supermarkts, they have some cocktails bars and there was alredy some people. The east beach of plakias is quiet therefore has warmer water.Further east of plakias there is some nice beaches and a big nordic resort. You can go to preveli beach but probably the direct bus is not running, you can take the bus to rethymon and outside plakias there is the path to preveli about 5 km or take a taxi.
