pathankot dharamshala cab fare

I'm reaching Pathankot with my family (wife n kid) by train and want to go ahead to dharamshala and then further on to manali, shimla and chandigarh, spending 2-3 at each place. I was wondering whether it would be better to book a cab for the entire trip or arrange one for the transport of each leg separately, i.e., pathankot-dharamshala, dharamshala-manali, manali-shimla, shimla-chandigarh. How much would the cab fare cost from pathankot to dharamshala and does anyone know a good cab provider with reliable driver?

Hi Dockalpesh! Here is the link to the Mcleodganj/Dharamshala taxi union website. It is very detailed and shows all the fares to various places, including all those you are interested in. Take a look at their rate list:

We took more or less the same trip last year.

We chose to take a bus from Pathankot to Dharamsala, which was easy and cheap and a relatively short drive. We hadn't planned it in advance, but just found the bus station in Pathankot, bought a ticket, and waited half an hour until the bus was ready to leave.

In Dharamsala/Mcleod Ganj, you will find numerous agencies offering luxury busses to Manali. We booked one day before, and it was no problem at all. We travelled through the nite in an 8 person minibus, which was quite comfortable.

Good luck with your trip, Himachal Pradesh is amazingly beautiful!

Oh, and if you choose to hire a car for several days, I will highly recommend Tiger Eye Adventures in Old Manali. They are a sweet and professional Indian/Dutch couple, and planned a nice trip for us. Their guesthouse in Old Manali is higly recommendable as well!

To add to what everyone else has said...

* yes taking buses is an option

* yes you can get one car and driver that takes you from point to point for each of your destinations

The challenge is once you get to your destination the driver may not know the local sites and therefore can not easily take you around.

In addition in some areas taxis from other regions can bring you in from other deistinations though they are not allowed to take you sightseeing in the local area you will need to use local taxis in these cases.

So maybe a combination of taking buses from place to place and then using local drivers in each destination to take you sightseeing.
