Tipping is personal and applies to any resort but that is a good start. I also tip mini bar guy every couple of days, bartenders or servers every couple of rounds, a la carte dinner and sit down lunches. Bell boy and if applicable, butlers. Amount varies and this typically applies only when I feel service is good. Certainly not obligatory but it is always welcome by the hard working staff.

Tip as you feel comfortable. You will get 100 different amount answers. Tip for great service...not just "expected service".

Unfortunately the same 10% of employees get all the tips and those who are behind the scenes in the cold storage warehouses, laundry facilities and all the support that makes the frontline look good...are overlooked.

As I mentioned, there is no steadfast rule, nor should you expect any less or better service based on tip amount.

Tip for "great service"...not "to get service".

So tipping staff is a great idea for these folks who barely make a living.

But if you are thinking of tipping cows then no, not here.

I will usually also tip a gardener, the person cleaning the resort washrooms and the people who clean the beach. 5 or 10 US dollars. It’s not a lot but it has always been appreciated .

Are pesos better or US dollars? I read that the locals have to exchange the dollar and they lose some during the exchange.

Nettagirl from my experience on the contrary as they know where to exchange to get more! I give pesos but at times USD as it ends up being more for instance if the USD is 55 pesos and you give a 50 peso bill they are actually getting less than 1 USD so I'd give in USD

Been to the Majestics 10 times now and as mentioned tip as you feel. And as PCMike says - tip when you get good service not to get good service. Some go over board with their tipping upfront especially with the Butler then write bad reviews because the feel they didn't get my tip worth.
