Stay in Lyme Regis or one of the nearby towns or villages?

Hi, we're a family of four (two near-teen kids) planning to spend a couple of days around Lyme Regis and Charmouth. We're doing a fossil walk during one of the days.

While both towns look interesting, it sounds like there has been some development in recent years that has diminished the charm (I could be dead wrong about this, by the way). Would you suggest we stay in either of Lyme Regis or Charmouth or are there any more picturesque villages nearby, where we could find a B&B?

Thanks for your help!

There would be more to do and see in Lyme Regis - particularly if the weather is not so good. There are plenty of B&Bs but check out if they have parking.

In my opinion recent developments at the beach have improved the resort.

Live 15 mins away from both and would side with WWB: if there have been developments, these have been positive! Lyme Regis especially is gorgeous, as is Charmouth, Beer, and most other local places. Best to give Seaton a miss....

Two good sites:

www.sawdays.co.uk (just use the map function to find places)

www.eastdevonexcellence.co.uk

Enjoy!
