Williams to the Grand Canyon by train

I am planning a trip to Grand Canyon National Park by way of Williams. The train ride interests me as an event in and of itself. My question is, should I travel in and out by train on the same day or is it recommended to stay at least one night at the park? Never having been here, I'm not sure what to expect and a 3 hour window between train arrival and departure seems like not nearly enough time.

Recommendations anyone??? Hotel recommendations much appreciated as well. Thank you!

Spend a night at the park. Sunset and sunrise are magical.

Too bad you won’t have a car to get around.

The train just looked awesome but I could drive. Nothing is concrete yet.

You’ll be glad to have your own car to tour everything east of the GC Village to Desert View. The train takes 3 hours from Williams. Driving takes just over 1 hour. There are no views of the canyon from the train at any time. Book your hotel at the park before you do anything else.

Ditto. Drive yourself. The train doesn't use a steam locomotive, even though they show that on their website. If you want a scenic train ride, take the Verde Canyon Railroad out of Clarkdale.

That would be a good suggestion, carracar -- IF the OP were going to Colorado or New Mexico. But she iusn't, so that suggestion really isn't very helpful at all, so I wonder why you would post it.

FYI, for those interested - The Grand Canyon Railway does bring out the Steam Locomotive about once a month. See the calendar here: https:/…
