Mesa Verde Grand canyon trip

I want to take my kids to see Mesa Verde and possibly Grand Canyon on the way if we have time. We would be going July 15 and need to be home by the 21st in the evening. We live in Concord Ca. Just wondering the best driving route to get there or we might be able to fly to AZ or Las Vegas possibly. Just wondering if we would have enough time to see things if we drove from Concord because it would be less expensive that way.

You need a minimum of one night at Grand Canyon National Park and 2 nights at Mesa Verde. These are MINIMUMS. Don’t leave home until those reservations are secured.

Consider this..

Concord to Grand Canyon - 12 hours of driving, wheels turning.

Grand Canyon to Mesa Verde - 5 hours wheels turning.

Mesa Verde to Concord - 15.5 hours, wheels turning.

You need a minimum of 1 night for the Grand Canyon and two nights for Mesa Verde. You will spend 32 hours in the car if you drive.

You should be able to find decent airfare from the Bay Area to Vegas on Southwest. I think you should consider flying. But before you do anything, you need to see if you can even get a hotel room at one of the six lodges inside the Grand Canyon or in the town of Tusayan. You do not want to stay in Williams. It’s to far away.

For Mesa Verde, be sure to read the information about visiting ruins on their website. Some ruins can only be toured by a guided tour with a ranger. Some can only be see from overlooks. Tickets for the guided tours must be purchased in advance in person. They cannot be purchased online, and the park visitor center will be the only convenient place for you to do so. Tickets can be purchased up to two days in advance.

All such attractions in national parks have become immensely popular, especially in summer.
