Yalikavak or Dalyan?

Hello everyone,

It's that time of year again where I am fed up of the cold and dreary January here in England and am turning to the brochures in search of this year's holiday. Last year we visited Kalkan for the second consecutive year and we absolutely loved it. It really is our perfect destination with its character, views, friendly people and great food; the nightlife is also perfect for us as we love nothing more than eating a great meal then having a post dinner drink in a quiet local bar then walking back to our hotel. The only problem with Kalkan is that it is a good two hours from the airport, and as we have already visited there twice, we would like to see what the rest of Turkey has to offer. Do you think Yalikavak is right for

us after reading what we like from our holiday? I was looking at the Cimintepe Apartments - does anyone know what they are like? Basic is fine for us, as long as it is clean and there is a nice pool area. Also, are there beaches in Yalikavak or are they more like private hotel beach clubs?

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Amy

Both these places would suit you if you ilke Kalkan.Yali has a narrow beach & plenty of small hotels, shops & restaurants.it is about half the time from the airport, depending on drop offs.Dalyan is about 30 mins from the airport . the beach is reached by river boat or dolmus.Dalyan has a feel a bit like Kalkan but not as expensive.

Think Yali would suit you last year there was a few people on here asking the same question after they had been to Kalkan a few times and they came back on here and said they loved it in Yali...Never stayed in Dalyan so cannot coment on that have been on a trip there and the beach was fantastic..

We first went to Yali in 1995 and as there was no Bodrum airport we flew to Izmir and then had 4 hours on a bus to Bodrum then another haif hour on a minibus to Yali..It was very tiny then with just a handfull of taverna/resteraunts and a tiny harbour with fishing boats bobing up and down but we loved that holiday..We have not stayed there since as we have tried loads of places in Turkey over the years but did visit when we were in Ortakent in 2009 and was supprised how it had developed but not for the worse there is a Marina there now and a lot more resteraunts and bars with loads more accomadtion to choose from...We do like the Bodrum Peninsula having stayed in Gundagon--Turkbuku--Torba--Ortakent--Yalikavak.and were are returning to Torba in june, its so easy to travel around the peninsula by dolmus and as turkofile says the transfers now are less than an hour to Yali..

Happy Holidays..
